Barossa and Kangaroo Island
Experience accommodation in the Barossa, Kangaroo Island and Adelaide over 6 days on this self drive package.
Day 1 & 2: On arrival in Adelaide collect your car hire vehicle and head straight to the Barossa, an easy one-hour’s drive from the city, and you’ll soon find yourself in the middle of one of the world’s most famous wine regions.
A visit to the Barossa is a taste of the good life with premium wines, including the world-famous Barossa Shiraz and Eden Valley Riesling, regional produce and acclaimed restaurants are all offered together to provide a great culinary experience. The picturesque rolling hills of the Barossa Ranges overlook a colourful patchwork of vineyards and picture book villages, dotted with historic churches, stone buildings and cottages.
Day 3 & 4: After two days exploring the Barossa, enjoy a scenic drive through the Adelaide Hills to Cape Jervis to board the SeaLink ferry service to Kangaroo Island, Australia’s third largest island, which is over 155km in length and 55km wide.
Once on the island, take in some of the spectacular coastal scenery, scenic landscapes and fantastic National Parks. Whilst Kangaroo Island is much celebrated for its wildlife, its food and wine are integral parts of the KI experience. Try sheep’s cheese and yoghurt along with a generous dollop of organic honey from the Island’s famous Ligurian Bee. Enjoy some of Kangaroo Island’s fine, home grown and award-winning wines and even some spirits from a boutique distillery. Sample some of Kangaroo Island’s freshwater crayfish – the Marron or savour the famous King George Whiting. There is nothing wild or untamed about the Island’s food and wines!
You can swim with dolphins or enjoy sailing, swimming, snorkelling, surfing and scuba-diving too. If you’d rather keep your feet on terra firma, then there’s caving, bushwalking, quad biking and sandboarding at Little Sahara. See the wonders of this great Island such as the Seal Bay Conservation Park where you will be taken on a beach walk tour with an experienced guide to be amongst a colony of rare and wild Australian sea lions – a truly amazing and unforgettable experience (tour not included).
Visit Flinders Chase National Park, a sanctuary for native Australian wildlife including kangaroos, wallabies, koalas and echidnas. Get some awesome photo opportunities at Remarkable Rocks and Admirals Arch, a natural nursery and safe haven for playful Long-nosed Fur Seals that can be seen resting, swimming and playing in the waves or on the rocks (entry fee into the Flinders Chase National Park is an additional cost).
Day 5: Return on the ferry to Cape Jervis and travel to Adelaide for your final night. If you have time, you may like stop at a winery or two in the McLaren Vale to try some of the local produce or buy souvenirs.
